Community Matters

Youth & Community Education

Our Education Department connects people of all ages to local agriculture and the food system through hands-on learning and community-based programs. Through Farm to School, Farm to Community, and Farm to Pantry we create meaningful opportunities to learn where our food comes from and how it is grown. We work with schools, community partners, farmers, and local organizations to deliver programs that strengthen food literacy, support student learning, and build connections between agriculture and the community. We also offer internship opportunities that provide real-world experience in conservation, education, and local food systems, helping students and community members build practical skills while contributing to the wellbeing of Stanislaus County.

Our Youth & Community Education Offerings

Farm to School

Farm to School brings hands-on learning into schools through our Jr. Chef, Jr. Farmer, and Healthy Gardens programs, helping students grow food, learn practical cooking skills, and connect to where their food comes from. These programs support student learning while building lifelong skills and stronger connections to local agriculture.

Educational Internships

The Student and Landowner Education and Watershed Stewardship (SLEWS) Program offers paid, hands-on internships for students interested in agriculture, conservation, and environmental stewardship. Interns work with ESRCD staff and community partners while building skills and making a difference locally.
